Weekly Update December 8th

Hi everyone! Que tal??  That is a friendly, espanol phrase that means "how are you"?? It is a relaxed version of "como esta", used between friends.

Sindy, Beto and Antony had some excitement on their way to La Ceiba Monday! They came upon an accident where a car had ended

up in a water filled ditch, upside down, with 3 people trapped in it! They were able to help get all 3 people out safely!! Thank you, Jesus!

We were able to get into the field this week handing out food bags! The bags consisted of Lifelines meal bags (thank you Darwyn), apples, fruit juice, flour, matches, spaghetti, salt, sugar, and of course, cookies! What a blessing! Thank you to all who have given! We were in a small community called Peru. It is along the coast, east of La Ceiba. A lot of people there have migrated from eastern Honduras, an area called La Mosquitia. There is a lot of poverty in Peru and many children! Due to your generosity, we handed out 110 meal bags to some very appreciative people!!

Today, Tuesday, Sindy is going to Utila to look at a potential job. The homeowner had a tile roof put on, that leaks every time it

rains! He wants us to remove the roof, fix the valley and replace the tile with the correct overlap. Sindy is nervous, the first time going to

a potential customer without me. She will do great! Looking forward to hearing about the project and seeing pictures. I've talked to Mr.

Dan on the phone, he seems like a real nice guy, hope we can help him!  It looks like an incorrect membrane was used under the

tile, we will need to use the correct one...with clay tile, the membrane is critical to help eliminate leaking!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, we are going to take meal bags to the area in San Pedro Sula called Esquipulas. It is along the river where

some people lost everything they couldn't carry with them to high ground! Sad! The delivery of food went really well and the people

were extremely grateful!! Thank you, Lord, for sending us to be your hands and feet! Sindy and team handed out 100 meal bags and

left them 4 extra boxes of rice, which was enough for 128 meals that feed 4 people each! Praise the Lord!

We are still feeling the pain of bureaucracy in La Ceiba. The city is trying to update all of their records, because they don't have any, (so they can charge more for real estate taxes). So... they are wanting the original plans, cost to build in 2013, etc. And... worse, it turned

out, they want the first floor analyzed, which we have done with an engineer, and after looking at the plans, and the pictures of the build, the original builder cut too many corners! We now have to tear down everything we have done on the second floor! Because of the seismic activity in Honduras, the first floor won't hold the second floor if there is a seismic event. It would be fine here in Ohio, not in Honduras!! Oh my... praying for an inexpensive resolution to this problem! As the guy in charge, I feel completely responsible for this, even though it was unforeseen... the cost of education sometimes.  We are investigating supporting the second-floor slab with steel beams and their own footings and columns... might be an option but probably very expensive!  If it works it might save us

demolishing what we have just built! I talked with Mr. Darren, an engineer friend at church today. He's going to look into some options

for us. Thank you, Darren!!

We are starting to get some solid interest in renting the bus! We have it rented for two days next week and for two days in January, with

some interest in a 4-day rental in January as well! We get enough rentals, and the bus will help pay for itself! Amen!! Which was the

plan! We had a local mechanic, Gabriel, from church come today with pastor Brayan, and give it a once over, making sure everything is up to snuff! They did find two of the air shocks need replaced. More evaluation on Saturday. We will raise the money and then change what is needed.

The crew is still working around rain clouds on the compound in Omoa! Hoping to have another room or two ready for the next team!

We're going to need some bunk beds made! And a roof...and windows...and doors...minor details, lol

We are also getting closer to finalizing some mission trips for next year. We are looking at trips on Mar. 25- Ap. 1; June 14-21; July 5-12;

and another chiropractor trip Aug. 16-22!  The momentum is growing! If you are interested in going on a trip let us know! Other dates

are available.

I had the privilege of meeting with a few people from Riverside Methodist Church in Upper Arlington this past week! Making relationships!

It was my pleasure, Jim, Mickey, Charlie and Caleb! Tammy and I have also met with Dave from Thrivent. We are on their register now

for giving! What a blessing! This Sunday at RCC, we are having a meeting after each service to see how much interest there is in a trip

we have scheduled for June 14-21.

We are praying  for strength, peace of mind, and clarity with our efforts to help others. Thank you all for walking along side of us

during this journey! May God bless you all! Jesus is the reason!!

Blessings, John and Tammy
